Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the exchange rates on this free currency converter?

Our converter uses mid-market exchange rates sourced from the European Central Bank via the Frankfurter API, updated every business day. These are the same rates you see on Google or financial news sites. However, when you actually convert money through banks or transfer services, they add a markup (typically 1-5%) as their fee. So the rate here is accurate for reference, but your actual conversion may differ slightly.

How do I convert between two currencies that are not both against USD?

The converter works by first converting your amount to USD (using USD exchange rates), then converting from USD to your target currency. So if you want to convert EUR to JPY, we calculate: EUR → USD → JPY. The exchange rate shown (e.g., 1 EUR = 162 JPY) is the cross rate derived this way.

Why should I use this currency converter instead of Google?

Google shows a single pair conversion. Our tool lets you: (1) Convert between 10 currencies instantly, (2) See the exchange rate with full precision (4 decimal places), (3) Swap currencies with one click, (4) Get quick preset amounts (1, 10, 100, 1000), (5) See when rates were last updated. It's a dedicated tool rather than a search result.

Can I use these rates for actual money transfers or travel?

These are indicative mid-market rates updated on weekdays. For actual money transfers, use your bank's rate or compare specialist services like Wise, Revolut, or OFX which often give rates much closer to mid-market than traditional banks. The difference can be 1-5% on large transfers, which is significant.

How often are the exchange rates updated?

Rates are sourced from the European Central Bank and updated on weekdays (Monday-Friday). They represent the official daily exchange rate. Weekend and holiday rates remain as last available weekday rate. The "Last updated" date is shown below the conversion result.
