A weighted grade calculator assigns different importance levels (weights) to assignments, exams, and projects. For example, if your final exam is worth 40%, midterm 30%, and homework 30%, the calculator multiplies each grade by its weight: If you score 85 on final (×40%), 90 on midterm (×30%), and 95 on homework (×30%), your final grade is (85×0.40) + (90×0.30) + (95×0.30) = 34 + 27 + 28.5 = 89.5% (B+). The standard US grading scale is: A+ (97-100%) - Excellent; A (93-96%) - Very Good; A- (90-92%) - Good; B+ (87-89%); B (83-86%); B- (80-82%); C+ (77-79%); C (73-76%); C- (70-72%); D+ (67-69%); D (65-66%) - Passing; F (below 65%) - Failing. Our calculator uses this standard scale but individual schools may have variations. Some use 90-100% for all A grades, or different percentage cutoffs for each letter.

No problem! Our grade calculator automatically normalizes weights that don't total 100%. It calculates the weighted average based on the proportional weights you enter. For example, if you enter weights of 40, 30, and 20 (total 90), the calculator treats them as 44.4%, 33.3%, and 22.2% respectively. This flexibility lets you focus on entering scores without worrying about perfect weight proportions. However, for accuracy, verify with your syllabus that weights are correct.

To find the required final exam grade: (1) Enter all completed assignments with scores and weights, (2) Add your final exam with its weight but leave score blank initially, (3) Experiment with different final exam scores to see impact on overall grade, (4) Work backwards from your desired final grade. For example, if you have 85% currently worth 60% of final grade, and want 90% overall, you need: (Desired Grade - Current Weighted Grade) ÷ Final Weight = (90 - 85×0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 97.5% on final.

Yes! Add extra credit as additional assignments with their earned points and weights. Extra credit typically adds to your total grade beyond 100%. For example, if you have 95% in regular assignments (100% weight) plus 5 extra credit points (5% weight), your total becomes 100%. Some instructors cap grades at 100%, while others allow above-100% totals. Check your syllabus for extra credit policies and weight distributions specific to your course.
